From Calling to Career
In 1987, I was serving as a Youth and Worship Pastor when I had the opportunity to drive a group of MB pastors visiting Denver. One of the pastors asked me, “What do you want to do with your life?” I had a business degree and working on my MBA, so I told him: “I’d love to be in a place where I could help people honor God with their money.” He laughed and said, “That’s pretty unrealistic, isn’t it?”
And yet, here I am. Nearly four decades later, that “unrealistic” dream has become a lifelong calling. September 1, 2025, marks 29 years since I joined the team at MB Foundation. It is that passion for financial discipleship that led me to minister at MB Foundation, and it is the same passion that drives me today.
At MB Foundation, we lend, invest, and manage money. We help people give generously and strive to model generosity ourselves. But at the heart of it all is a desire to help individuals and ministries honor God with the resources entrusted to them.
Three years ago, we took a step forward by hiring our first Director of Financial Discipleship. Rick Eshbaugh has served faithfully in that role, helping us elevate stewardship education and catalyze God-honoring generosity. Through his leadership, we launched resources like Redeeming Money and Trusted, developed Giving Circles, and promoted grants to pastors through our Financial Health initiative—which has now awarded over $185,000.
Now, as Rick returns to the pastorate to serve as Lead Pastor at Ebenfeld MB Church in Hillsboro, KS, a new opportunity emerges—for someone else to carry this mantle.
Is that someone you? Or someone you know?
Do you share a passion for helping others honor God with their finances? Are you called to develop disciples through their stewardship journey?
If so, I’d love to hear from you at jwiebe@mbfoundation.com.
