Ministry in Financial Discipleship
On August 1, 2022, I made a transition from serving as Central District Minister to beginning a newly formed position as the Director of Financial Discipleship at MB Foundation. This move sparked two questions- “Why are you leaving the ministry?” and “What will you do for MB Foundation?”.
The answer to the first is, I’m not leaving ministry behind. MB Foundation has been a conduit of service and ministry from its very beginning. Our focus is on encouraging Biblical principles of financial stewardship and generosity in individuals, congregations, and ministries.
So how do I specifically minister, what is my role at MB Foundation?
Of course, I am always willing to fill the pulpit or lead a workshop as my calendar allows. But as the Director of Financial Discipleship, I oversee and develop four powerful tools for you and the church. You will find these tools on our website:
Championing Biblical Stewardship– I am developing new teaching materials on stewardship and generosity to add to previous initiatives like The God Pocket, The Genius of Generosity, Firstfruits, and Four H’s of Financial Wisdom. Churches will have easy access to them on our website. In addition there are great resources like ChurchExcel which offers support in the area of Church Administration (Policies, taxes, procedures, etc.) or the up-to-date tax guide for pastors and churches! So much is here! Can’t find your answer? Then give me a call and I will chase it down for you!
Financial Health for Pastors and Churches – Together with our partner, National Association of Evangelicals, we are able to offer financial planning and teaching courses for pastors, boards, and church members. These tools are free and some come with grants up to $3,000 for a pastor’s retirement or sabbatical costs!
LeadGen– Do you know someone in your church that has an interest in becoming a pastor or missionary in the Mennonite Brethren family? Are you, or someone you know, interested in developing further as a leader? Leadership Generation Fund (LeadGen) provides yearly scholarships from $500 to $3000 to young adults from High School interns to graduate students who are exploring ministry leadership opportunities in our Mennonite Brethren family. The church needs leaders who are called and equipped. MB Foundation wants to help! I am privileged to help make this happen.
Thrive– MB Foundation is partnering with our USMB family through a newer program that assists churches in “reaching their full God-given potential”. Thrive is designed to provide funding for new health initiatives after a church has completed a time of intentional discernment. We offer grants if financial assistance is needed to implement a new initiative. Check out the possible resources on the Thrive webpage. BUT don’t contact me directly about the grants. First contact your regional District Minister who will assist with the assessment and formation of an action plan. When the DM sends in the application I will work to provide some of the financial fuel!
Please contact me if I can serve you in any way. I haven’t left the ministry!!
