God and His Promises
In Matthew 6, Jesus said: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is so your heart will be also.”
Our treasure is always the greatest, clearest, and truest revealer of our hearts.
If we’re honest, for many of us, money has become our treasure on earth. Here’s how you can tell: Take a look at your finances over the past couple years, noticing where you spent, saved, and donated.
What does that reveal about your treasure? What does that say about your heart?
Here’s why it’s complicated—
Later on in Matthew 6, Jesus says: “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Either we have hope in God and His promises or money.
Although we can HAVE both material possessions and God, we can only SERVE one. Jesus doesn’t need or want our money, but He does want our hearts.
Will you take some time this week and review your finances? Ask God to open your eyes to any false hope you have regarding your money. We can only serve one master.
