Nathan and Lynette Hiebert
Nathan and Lynette Hiebert believe in making decisions that reflect their values of faith, family and stewardship. Early in their marriage they made the intentional choice to remain in a smaller community because they knew it provided a place where they could live out those values for their children.
During a Sunday message their pastor encouraged the congregation to see financial planning and preparing for guardianship as an act of stewardship. At the time, Nathan and Lynette were the parents of two young children with a third on the way. Feeling prompted to apply what they heard, they recognized the need for a will.
Planning for the possibility of not being there for their children and facing the unknowns of setting up a plan made it an uncomfortable topic. The Hieberts recognized they needed help and knew MB Foundation offered will planning services. The initial appointment was to talk about a will, but it developed into a conversation about what they valued.
“We learned so much going through the process. The relational aspect of the experience helped us think through what we valued the most,” said Lynette. Nathan added, “It took time and energy to put a plan together, but we were able to process it in a healthy way. We found it to be a way to love our kids and leave a kingdom focused legacy.”
MB Foundation helped the Hieberts set up an estate plan that provides guardianship for their children with family members, and financial management through a professional trustee. They didn’t want the caregivers to be burdened with the extra responsibility of managing the finances as they cared for the children.
The Hiebert family has grown to include five children, but the principles of the plan have remained the same. Nathan and Lynette are being good stewards of what has been entrusted to them. Their children will be taken care of by family, and the trust will reflect their values as it provides for the children and the ministries they care about. What began as a prompting, led to a plan of stewardship reflecting their values of family and faith.
“Should it ever be needed, I have peace of mind that a thought out plan is in place.” said Lynette.
